Nurturing Environment

HPMS Curriculum

The curriculum at HPMS is a Montessori approach to education. Harbour Pointe Montessori School in Mukilteo, WA, is often a child’s first experience with a formal educational setting. It is essential that this experience be positive, nurturing, and allow for the child’s sense of wonder to emerge. Everything in the school is designed with the children’s specific development in mind. The materials are all interrelated to allow variations and progressions for each child’s abilities and developmental needs, thus creating a “developmentally appropriate” curriculum. Our focus is one of following the child. Through carefully prepared activities and classrooms, the children are able to explore and discover.

Evolving Curriculum

Our curriculum is constantly evolving as the needs of the children grow and change. The materials are divided into six main areas. Each area has materials that are displayed sequentially. As the children choose and master one piece of material, they are free to move on to the next. Our Montessori approach to learning supports the development of independence, coordination, self-discipline, and increased concentration, while developing the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and culturally. We enjoy a different theme or unit of study each month.
